Sexual Violence Against Beggars and their Coping Strategies in District Mardan: A Quantitative Study
Abstract
Beggars encounter numerous challenges on a daily basis in Pakistan, with violence being a particularly pressing issue. This study examines the violence experienced by beggars in Mardan, Pakistan, and their corresponding coping mechanisms. Employing a quantitative methodology and probability sampling, the research recruits’ respondents from the beggar population in Mardan. Utilizing an interview schedule for data collection and SPSS for data analysis, the study conducts univariate analysis and chi-square tests. It presents descriptive statistics on various socio-demographic variables and bivariate statistics demonstrating that both male and female beggars face sexual violence. However, male beggars experience more sexual violence than their female counterparts. The research also draws attention to the significant violence the beggar community encounters, underscoring the necessity for increased academic and policy attention directed toward this issue.
