Policy
1. Commitment to Preservation
ASSAJ is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published articles and associated data. We understand the importance of providing researchers with reliable and consistent access to scholarly information and data for future generations.
2. Archiving Methods
- Digital Archiving: All published articles and associated data are archived electronically in a secure and reliable digital repository. This repository utilizes industry-standard preservation practices and disaster recovery protocols to ensure long-term accessibility.
- Metadata Archiving: Comprehensive metadata describing each article and its associated data is archived alongside the files. This metadata allows researchers to easily discover and access the archived materials.
- Persistent Identifiers: Each article and data set is assigned a persistent identifier (PID) such as a DOI or Handle. This ensures consistent and reliable access to the archived materials, even if the URL or location of the files changes over time.
3. Embargo Period and Access
- There is a six-month embargo period for articles published in ASSAJ. During this period, access to the full text and associated data will be restricted to subscribers and institutional affiliates.
- After the embargo period, the full text and associated data will be made freely available online to everyone as part of ASSAJ's commitment to open access.
4. Data Archiving Standards
ASSAJ encourages authors to follow recognized data archiving standards for their associated data sets. This promotes data quality, ensures discoverability, and facilitates reuse by other researchers. We recommend guidelines such as those provided by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) or the Dataverse Project.
5. Collaboration and Partnerships
ASSAJ actively collaborates with other archival institutions and initiatives to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of scholarly data. We participate in national and international efforts to develop best practices for data archiving and sharing.
6. Access and Availability
ASSAJ aims to provide continuous and reliable access to all archived materials. However, unforeseen circumstances might temporarily disrupt access. We will make every effort to restore access as quickly as possible and communicate any outages or issues on the journal website.
7. Review and Updating
This Archiving Policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect changes in technology, best practices, and user needs. The updated policy will be posted on the journal website.
