Abstract

This research elucidates the profound significance of time within the framework of Islamic teachings and conducts an analytical exploration into the pervasive phenomenon of time wastage in the modern world. Grounded in the primary sources of Islam the Qur’ān, Ḥadīth, the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and the exemplary conduct of his Companions and pious predecessors the study systematically examines the theological, moral, and practical dimensions of time as a divine trust and a finite resource. It highlights how Islam categorically emphasizes time management as an act of worship and a measure of personal accountability in both worldly and spiritual pursuits. The paper further investigates the multifaceted impact of contemporary technological advancements, digital distractions, social media consumption, and evolving cultural norms on the efficient utilization of time. Special attention is given to identifying key behavioral, psychological, and environmental factors that contribute to procrastination, unproductive routines, and a general disregard for time's value in modern society. In its concluding section, the study synthesizes Islamic principles with contemporary time-management strategies to propose a holistic, faith-centered framework. This includes actionable guidelines aimed at cultivating mindfulness, discipline, and intentionality in daily activities, enabling Muslims to navigate modern challenges while remaining aligned with Islamic ethics and purposeful living.
