Propagation of Islamic Teachings Related to Social Justice: Challenges and Opportunities
Abstract
This research explores the propagation of social justice within the framework of Islamic teachings, examining both the formidable challenges and promising opportunities in the contemporary world. Social justice, a core tenet of Islam, is not a modern ideological construct but a divine mandate rooted in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), aimed at establishing a balanced society where rights are upheld, and equity prevails. The study begins by establishing a comprehensive conceptual foundation of social justice as derived from basic Islamic sources, highlighting its dimensions of equality, accountability and the protection of fundamental rights. It then critically analyzes the historical and cultural obstacles that have impeded the practical implementation of these ideals, such as entrenched feudal structures, colonial legacies, and cultural practices that contradict Islamic principles. Furthermore, the research delves into modern challenges, including the impact of globalization, digital divide, economic disparities, and the rise of secularism, which complicate the propagation of Islamic social justice in a pluralistic world. Despite these hurdles, the study identifies significant possibilities through digital media, civil society engagement, and educational reform. The findings underscore that a revival of ijtihad and a holistic approach that integrates faith with institutional reform are essential for translating Islamic ideals of justice into tangible realities. Ultimately, this research asserts that Islamic social justice offers a timeless and dynamic model that can address contemporary societal ills if its propagation is undertaken with wisdom, contextual awareness and a commitment to the authentic spirit of the Shariah.
