Halal Food Industry Governance: An Analytical Study in the Light of the Prophetic Seerah
Abstract
The global Halal food industry has experienced remarkable growth over the past two decades, emerging as one of the fastest-growing sectors in the international food market. Despite its rapid expansion, the industry continues to face significant challenges related to governance, transparency, certification integrity, supply chain management, food fraud, and consumer trust. These challenges have raised concerns regarding the credibility and sustainability of Halal food systems, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive ethical and governance framework. This study examines the principles of governance, transparency, and consumer trust in the Halal food industry through the lens of the Prophetic Seerah. Employing a qualitative and analytical research methodology, the study analyzes relevant Qur'anic injunctions, Prophetic traditions, classical Islamic sources, and contemporary scholarly literature on Halal governance and consumer protection. The findings reveal that the Prophetic Seerah provides a holistic governance model founded upon honesty, trustworthiness, accountability, transparency, market supervision, quality assurance, and the protection of consumers' rights. These principles not only ensure Shariah compliance but also promote institutional integrity and strengthen public confidence in the Halal food industry. The study concludes that integrating the ethical and governance principles derived from the Prophetic Seerah into contemporary Halal governance frameworks can substantially enhance transparency, improve regulatory effectiveness, reinforce consumer trust, and contribute to the sustainable development of the global Halal food industry.
