Abstract

The current study intended to translate and validate the Couple Burnout Measure-Short Version (CBMS) and Communication Pattern Questionnaire-Short Form (CPQ-SF). The study comprised of four phases; Phase-I was the translation of the scales by using forward-backward translation method. In Phase-II, cross language validation was checked on a convenient sample of 60 (men=30, women=30), age range 28 to 50 years (M = 35.1, SD = 4.7). They were divided into two equal groups. The scale was administered in reverse order and every group was given all versions of the scales (i.e., Urdu, English, and Original) to analyze inter-versions correlations. All versions of the scales (viz., Original, forward translated and backward translated) showed significant positive correlations. In Phase III, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and psychometric properties of Urdu translated version was checked on a sample of 250 married couples (men=125, and women= 125) of age between 22 to 70 years (M = 39.7, SD = 10.1). In Phase IV, convergent validity of the translated instruments was assessed. Results retained the original structure of the scale.
