The Impact of Prolonged Sitting on Posture and Health: A Comprehensive Analysis
Abstract
Prolonged sitting has become a pervasive aspect of modern life, contributing to musculoskeletal discomfort and long-term health risks. This cross-sectional study investigates the relationship between prolonged sitting, musculoskeletal symptoms, ergonomic practices, and posture awareness among 150 sedentary individuals. Results show significant associations between prolonged sitting, musculoskeletal discomfort, and inadequate ergonomic chair usage. Moderate posture awareness was reported, but actual behavioral changes were lacking. Linear regression and random forest models predict musculoskeletal issues based on ergonomic and behavioral factors. The study underscores the importance of promoting ergonomic solutions, regular breaks, and posture correction to mitigate musculoskeletal discomfort.
