Women's Rights in Islam and Guidance from the Prophetic Seerah: A Research Analysis
Abstract
This research article offers a detailed analytical exploration of the rights and status of women in Islam in the light of the noble Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Contrary to prevalent misconceptions, the study highlights how Islam, from its inception, granted women unparalleled dignity, social standing, and rights in various spheres of life, including spiritual, intellectual, social, economic, and political domains. Drawing upon over twenty authentic Islamic sources, including the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical works of Islamic scholarship, the article examines the Prophetic model as the ideal standard for women’s empowerment and protection. By analyzing the Prophet’s ﷺ personal treatment of women, whether as daughters, wives, mothers, or members of society, the study presents a balanced and historically grounded understanding of women’s position in Islam. The research also addresses contemporary issues and critiques through the lens of the Seerah, reinforcing that the Islamic perspective is rooted in justice, honor, and equality. This work contributes to correcting misinterpretations and reasserts the relevance of the Prophetic example in modern discourse on women’s rights.
