Abstract

The research paper is an attempt to study the novel, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, by Mohsin Hamid with the lens of Sigmund Freud`s Psychoanalytical Theory of Personality. The study investigates the elements and effects of Id and Superego in the Character Changez. The theoretical framework mainly focuses on Psychoanalytical theory of Sigmund Freud, while the method is close reading. The study of Psychoanalytical theory and the novel, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, not only brings out the nature of the personality of a man, but its study also helps develop a mature and comprehensive understanding of man, nature, and society. It is a qualitative research with method of textual analysis. The findings are moral decline in the result of personal ego and dishevelment created by it in the present society in general and in the life of an average man in particular. It means this research found out that living in a modern world, living beings are faced with the challenges of time, coupled with their social background, socio-cultural environment, fate and heredity.
