Apparent Contradictions in the Verses of the Horizons and the Self: Objections and Responses
Abstract
This paper addresses the objections raised against Qur'anic verses related to Āyāt al-Āfāq wa al-Anfus (Signs in the horizons and within the self), which are often claimed to present internal contradictions or inconsistencies. Through a detailed analysis of selected verses and classical as well as modern exegetical sources, the article explores how these objections stem from misinterpretations, selective readings, or a lack of contextual understanding. It highlights how the Qur’an presents a holistic vision of divine signs that reinforce faith through reflection on both the external universe and the inner human reality. The study concludes that there is no real contradiction in these verses; instead, they represent complementary perspectives on divine reality, each reinforcing the other in demonstrating the oneness, wisdom, and power of Allah.
