THE INTERSECTION OF LANGUAGE, CULTURE, AND IDENTITY IN EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY OF PAKISTAN
Abstract
The present research work examines uses of language, culture and identity in educational institutions in Pakistan. It incorporates analysis of language policies and practices affecting student cultural selves and achievement. The study employs both quantitative questionnaires with 100 students and qualitative questionnaires in the form of interviews with 10 educators. Thus, the presented study raises concern on the relationship between language policies and practices and students’ cultural affiliations and academic performance. Children who are able to be … bicultural and retain focus on their cultural ethnicities are great achievers academically and culturally. The study concludes with the awareness raising implications for the culturally responsive and inclusion educational practices in Pakistan. Language planning, culturally appropriate instruction, culturally appropriate curriculum, and language support services are among them. The work enriches the field’s knowledge on language, culture and identity and offers directions for practical applications of culturally sensitive educational approach.
