Abstract

This study explores the psychological challenges faced by educated women within the joint family system in Pakhtun society, analyzed from both Islamic and sociological perspectives. The Pakhtun joint family system is deeply rooted in cultural traditions that emphasize collective living and decision-making. While this system fosters familial unity and mutual support, it also creates unique psychological pressures for women, particularly those who are educated and aspire for personal autonomy and career advancement. Educated women often encounter conflicts between traditional familial expectations and their professional aspirations, leading to stress, identity crises, and a sense of being undervalued. The study investigates these challenges, considering the role of societal norms, gender roles, and the influence of Islamic teachings in shaping family dynamics. It also examines the expectations placed on women regarding household responsibilities, adherence to cultural norms, and the restrictions they face despite their education. Islamic teachings emphasize balance, justice, and mutual respect within families, offering a framework that supports women's rights and acknowledges their contributions. This study highlights how these principles can be applied to address the psychological issues faced by educated women, advocating for a balanced approach that respects cultural values while promoting individual well-being and empowerment. The research provides insights into how societal reforms and awareness of Islamic principles can reduce the psychological burden on women, fostering a more equitable and supportive environment.
