Abstract

The implementation of Urdu as the national language of Pakistan has faced numerous challenges since its inception. While Urdu is widely spoken across the country, its formal use in education, administration, and media remains inconsistent. This paper explores the key issues that hinder the effective implementation of Urdu, including regional linguistic diversity, lack of standardized educational frameworks, and political resistance. It also addresses the historical context of Urdu's promotion and the social and cultural perceptions associated with the language. The study emphasizes the importance of establishing a comprehensive language policy to promote Urdu effectively while accommodating regional languages. It also suggests solutions to improve the status and functionality of Urdu as a national language to ensure its wider acceptance and integration in various sectors.
