Abstract

Environmental issues have emerged as one of the most critical and sensitive challenges of the contemporary era. Floods, earthquakes, droughts, epidemics, and climate variations are increasingly threatening human survival. In this context, Pakistan is among the countries most severely affected by climate change and natural disasters. In recent decades, devastating rains and floods, prolonged droughts, famine, heat waves, melting glaciers, and declining agricultural productivity have inflicted deep shocks on the national economy, human lives, and the social fabric. The paper seeks to explore the following central question: What were the major environmental events during the Prophetic era, and what lessons and guiding principles can be drawn from them that may serve as a framework for preventing and mitigating the present-day environmental crisis? During the Prophetic era, various environmental calamities also occurred, and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) not only provided spiritual and religious guidance on such occasions but also taught humanity practical ways of living in harmony with nature and the natural order. In response to events such as solar and lunar eclipses, famine, epidemics, rain, and floods, the Prophet (PBUH) emphasized prayer, repentance, turning to Allah, cooperation, moderation in the use of resources, and respect for nature. In the context of the present environmental crisis (climate change), these teachings become even more relevant. This paper highlights that Prophetic teachings are not only a source of guidance for the past but also provide a sustainable foundation for addressing contemporary global environmental challenges. Particularly for environmentally vulnerable countries like Pakistan, the lessons derived from the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) can play a pivotal role. They can help raise public awareness, guide policy-making, and contribute to the pursuit of environmental justice and the goals of sustainable development.
